While there’s definitely a sense of excitement in taking a taxi to the airport, stocking up on suncream and updating your Facebook status to reveal a glamorous location, we’re all about the Staycation this year!
No money exchange. No shoving miniature toiletries into a small plastic bag. No ordering fish when you really thought you were ordering chicken. No hassle, no stress!
Yes, this year Britons are turning their backs on the traditional two-week holiday. According to a new survey, more and more of us are opting for a one-week summer holiday with 4 mini-breaks throughout the year rather than the old-fashioned fortnight away.
Why is this so?
Well firstly, we have become a nation of value seekers post-recession, and in order to get the maximum benefit from our treasured holiday entitlement, we are using our allowance in bursts throughout the year rather than all in one go. 20 days holiday a year doesn’t go far, especially if you take 10 of them in one pop!
Secondly, we are under more pressure than ever with our busy 24/7 lives and work, family, economic and other pressures piling on top of us.
Quick breaks offer an instant recharge of the batteries and are important, both psychologically and physically, as ‘running on empty’ all year can lead to chronic exhaustion and stress.
So where to go for your stress-free Autumn mini break?
Here are 5 reasons why Lifehouse is the perfect Autumn Staycation:
1) We’re close to London
We’re tucked away in the heart of rural Essex, nestled in 130 acres of beautiful grounds. So, in less than 90 minutes you can travel by train straight from London Liverpool Street to our local station Thorpe-le-Soken. Take your overnight bag to work and you’ll be with us in time for an early evening drink! Easy peasy!
2) We have acres of space
During the Autumn months, our gardens explode in colour with a contrasting palette of reds, browns and oranges as the Liquidamber, Swamp Cypress, Persian Ironwood and other specimens come into their own. The wilderness gives a display of grasses and flower seed heads, all reflected in the clear water of the lakes. Autumn is the best time to view the aptly named ‘Autumn Crocus’ Colchicum autumnale, with pink spikes piercing through the undergrowth to give a final display of colour before the onset of winter. Wander through the gardens on a misty morning to experience a true feeling of serenity and calm.
3) We’re home to lots of life’s little wonders
Keep your eyes peeled for the wildlife that can be seen around the grounds, as we have many different creatures great and small living at Lifehouse. There’s a nesting group of buzzards that have made the woods their home and a small herd of roe deer that pass through the estate from time to time. Mr Darcy, our resident heron strolls around the garden as well as a tawny owl, a barn owl and some brightly coloured Kingfishers. You won’t see all that in a day in the city!
4) We have delicious Mediterranean style food
Take your tastebuds on a Mediterranean fling and enjoy our 3 course dinner which is included in your Staycation. Savour the same warm, deep flavours that you do in the heart of the Med, but with the added benefit of knowing exactly what you ordered! No language barriers here, gracias!
The cooler weather also gives us an excuse to eat some heartier healthy food such as our Tuscan-style Sausages with Cannellini Beans or the seasonal Vegetarian Butternut Squash Curry with Rice.
After dinner, you can cosy up in a big armchair in the bar with a glass of Rioja. Bliss.
5) There are plenty of relaxation spots
We have a relaxation room complete with blankets, plenty of loungers beside the swimming pool and a cosy hydrotherapy pool to name a few hideaways.
And if you want to experience the ultimate in relaxation, then you can add on some treatments to your Staycation. We’re offering Staycation guests 2 hours of treatment time for £100 instead of £130!
Clarins Chill Out Massage? Decleor Glow Facial? Ishga Detoxifying Seaweed Body Wrap? The choice is yours! See our range of treatments available here.
So, by all means head south to the Canaries in the winter. But to leave Britain now in the Autumn? Crazy!
