Caster Oil Abdominal Massage - Review

It’s a warm summer evening in May and I write this from my cozy bed in Lifehouse Spa. It’s 8pm…don’t judge me! If you’ve ever been to Lifehouse you’ll know only too well that this magical place makes you feel so relaxed and sleepy…

This evening I experienced an incredible new treatment called the Castor Oil Abdominal Massage and I wanted to write about my experience to encourage others to try it out

Firstly I know you’ll ask the same question – what exactly is an abdominal massage?! Normally I flinch when I hear anything to do with abdominals as it reminds me of years of dreaded sit-ups in the gym. Well this treatment certainly doesn’t take any effort!

I did a little reading before the treatment so I knew what to expect. A castor oil abdominal massage is a healing and soothing treatment for the abdomen using a warm castor oil. Castor oil is derived from the seeds of the Castor plant (Ricinus communis), also known as Palma Christi. It’s been used for healing for 4000 years!

The treatment helps to:

  • Heal digestion and increase elimination
  • Reduce bloating
  • Stimulate the liver and help detox
  • Relieve pain, especially menstrual and uterine pain
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Increase lymphatic flow

I suffer from bloating and bad digestion so I was keen to try this out and see the results.

Maria was my lovely therapist and she was so experienced and comfortable to be with. After I laid on the bed she applied warm caster oil and a heat pack (basically like a hot water bottle!) on to my stomach. I was then wrapped up in towels and my stomach area was left for 30 minutes to allow the oil time to be absorbed.

During the 30 minutes, I enjoyed one of the best massages I’ve ever had. Maria asked me what areas I wanted to focus on and I chose legs/feet and upper back and neck. I’m a bit of a gym bunny so my thighs and feet are always needing some attention! I asked for a deep massage and Maria worked really hard at my back and neck to get all those dreaded knots out.

After the 30 minutes was up, the oil was then removed from my tummy and I received a soothing abdominal massage. She used different strokes and pressures to rub quite deeply into my stomach. It didn’t hurt at all but it was a new experience to have your stomach massaged!

Once finished I stood up and instantly felt the difference. I actually couldn’t believe how much better I felt and looked. The bloating had all gone and my stomach felt really flat and looked lean. I felt really light and empty, the way you feel when you’ve not eaten for a while, however I wasn’t hungry at all.

Maria explained to me that for the best results, you should have the treatment every other day over the course of one week. However even after one session I felt the benefits.  Thank you Lifehouse Spa for introducing me to this treatment – I’m now  going to adopt it into my general wellness regime.
