Winter Skin Tips

There is nothing better than wrapping up on a bright, crisp winters day, going out for a long walk and coming home to a cosy house to have a cuppa! But as lovely as this sounds, we must make sure that we protect and nourish our skin during the winter months to avoid our skin looking unhealthy!

At this time of year, we expose our skin to many different conditions from icy temperatures, whipping winds, and Sahara-like heating. This often leaves our skin feeling dry, unloved and crying out for some intensive moisture to restore it to its former glory!

With a mind-boggling array of products out there on the market it is almost impossible to know where to begin. So to help you get started, I have recommended a simple facial routine and hand-picked my top product contenders that will leave your skin feeling gorgeous, glowing and youthful this winter.

Cleanse:  Use a milk cleanser such as The Decleor Essential Cleansing Milk with Neroli to remove make up and cleanse the face – a milk cleanser is light and soothing to the skin and will not take away any natural oils.

Tone: Follow your milk cleanser with a toner designed to add moisture, not take it away, so look for a toner that does not contain alcohol. I recommend The Decleor Essential Tonifying Lotion

Eyes: Apply an eye seruim Like the Decleor Hydrotenseur. This is a powerful hydro-tensor for the delicate eye contour area that helps wake up and boost the eye area while also combating wrinkles and fine lines caused by ageing.  Another of my favourites is the Aroma Lisse 2-In-1 Dark Circle & Eye Wrinkle Eraser to help calm and sooth the eye area. This time of year we place a big strain on our eyes so remember to give your eye a little TLC! To make your eyes feel and look great use light circular movements to apply your eye cream to help stimulate blood flow and collagen production.

Serum: Everyone needs a serum or face oil to give your skin a well needed and deserved boost. My favourite is the Clarins Double Serum. Remember to massage the product in for at least 5- 8 minutes as this will simulate the blood flow to regenerate the skin cells and also help to remove any toxins.

Moisturise and Protect: Your skin is crying out for moisture! Make sure you use a hydrating moisturiser to help you boost your skin and retain water and collagen. Try the Clarins Super Restorative Moisturiser for super soft, fabulously pampered skin.

It’s really important not to forget to hydrate your skin from within by drinking lots of water and herbal tea. So drink up and don’t let your skin go thirsty!

Finally, remember to give yourself some ‘’ me time’’ to help battle those winter blues! Once a week run yourself a lovely warm bubble bath, light some candles and do a full facial exfoliation (the Espa Refining skin polish is wonderful) and mask (try the Espa Essential Cleansing Mask).

And while you are relaxing in the bath, don’t forget, your body also may need some TLC. The Scottish seaweed skincare range, ishga, is fabulous for detoxifying and nourishing winter skin.  With cucumber extract, macadamia oil, jojoba oil, aloe vera and lemon peel, the ishga salt and oil scrub and body lotion will give your skin a healthy youthful glow ready for springtime.  The ishga products may not be easy to find in the shops but, if you want to try some, give us a ring and we can post them out to you.
